quotes Years of commuting 20 miles in Michigan winters taught me one valuable tip: the only way I could keep my fingers and toes warm when it was REALLY cold (which I defined as -15, toasty by Alberta standards I know) was for my body and limbs to be slightly too warm. If your trunk is just comfortable, your toes will be cold. All the expensive gear did nothing when that icy wind was tearing through it. Neoprene fishing gloves are super, too, but they have to be a bit sweaty to insulate. And when you get to work, you WILL smell like a whale carcass.

quotes That sounds kind of like how I remember it only in 96 there was nothing built or groomed at all. We used to pedal our XC bikes up from the parking lot until we hit snow, then bomb down this old skidoo trail for about twenty minutes at about ten thousand miles an hour. Then you'd come back on this trail that went back and forth across the river and up to this awesome brew pub for lunch. It was really really wild and beautiful.

quotes Hell yeah Sunday River! We used to ride there wayyy back in the 90's and it was awesome then, if a bit rustic. What's it like now?

quotes Thank you, that's nice to know.

quotes True - it would be really nice if they mentioned a little bit of the legality issues surrounding what they're doing. They probably did clear this with local land managers/forest ministry/ land owners, but it would be good to know more about that process. Yeah, Oakrun - try this up in the Sierras and you'd end up doing more time than a crack dealer.

quotes Right, Specialized Bighit. But way earlier was the Kuwahara Jaguar. I remember really wanting one of those when I was 14. And Mongoose, too - Johnny T started mountain bike racing on a converted 24" BMX. Personally, I'm really lousy at pulling up the front wheel, and when I'm on a 29 inch bike the front end might as well be nailed to the ground. With a 24 in back I'm manualing off everything.

quotes Yeah, 24's are awesome! It's sweet to be able to make a light but indestructible wheel for less than 100 bucks, and put monster tires on without it feeling ungainly. Sun Envy rims are tough and reasonable in price, and pretty easy to get. Tires are more problematic, but I've been digging the DMR Moto Digger for AM use, and Schwalbe claims to have Fat Alberts in folding 24x2.4. When I win the lottery...
